About Dr. Lobo
Bjorn Lobo, MD, FAANS is a board-certified neurosurgeon and partner at the California Neurosurgical Institute, serving patients across the greater Los Angeles area from offices in Encino and Valencia. As the 2024–2026 Chair of Surgery at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital, Dr. Lobo has earned recognition as one of Southern California's most accomplished cranial and spine surgeons — named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, Los Angeles Magazine Top Doctor, and California Top Doctor in 2024, and a Southern California Super Doctor for three consecutive years (2024, 2025, and 2026). His dedication to his patients earned him the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Health Care Hero Award in 2019, an honor reflecting his peers' recognition of his commitment to surgical excellence and compassionate care.
A dual fellowship-trained neurosurgeon, Dr. Lobo specializes in the surgical treatment of brain tumors arising from the skull base and pituitary gland, as well as the full spectrum of spinal disorders. He is known for meticulous surgical technique and a philosophy of using the least invasive approach possible — restoring quality of life with safer procedures, less risk, and faster recoveries. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals including Neurosurgery, Pituitary, World Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgery Clinics of North America.
Dr. Lobo's clinical expertise was forged at one of the world's premier medical institutions. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation — consistently ranked among the top four hospitals in the United States and home to one of the nation's most acclaimed neurology and neurosurgery programs. Following residency, he remained at Cleveland Clinic for an additional two-year fellowship dedicated to the treatment of complex skull base brain tumors, training under a nationally recognized team of specialists in one of the highest-volume skull base programs in the country. He then completed a final year of subspecialty training in minimally invasive and endoscopic skull base surgery at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, bringing a rare depth of technical expertise to his Los Angeles practice.
“My goal is simple: treat every patient as if they were a family member — with honesty, compassion, and the highest level of surgical precision.”
